Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.

Investing in K-12 Education

Investing in K-12 Education

Investing in K-12 Education

Ensuring Williamsburg student performance and test scores are on par with neighboring counties by:

  • Investing in Early Childhood Education and Pre-K programs are one of the best ways to guarantee students are prepared for their future. Students with a strong early education are far more likely to succeed and pass standardized tests in K-12 Education.
  • Increasing teacher pay, and decreasing the student-to-teacher ratio.
  • Evaluating the option of establishing an independent school system, considering student outcomes, teacher and staff stability, and down-the-line ramifications of a Williamsburg Independent School System after receiving the Student Performance Action Plan on July 31st.
  • Expanding access to Certificate Programs and Vocational Schools at the high school level.

  • Coordinating with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to set even more ambitious goals for greenhouse gas reduction, building off the 2022 Williamsburg Greenhouse Gas Audit.
  • Constructing more walkable infrastructure to reduce carbon monoxide emissions from road vehicles.
  • Protecting Williamsburg greenspace and parks, and expanding it where possible.

  • Working with the Williamsburg Police to bridge divides between different city communities.

  • Collaborating with Colonial Williamsburg to increase Williamsburg's national presence as a premier tourist destination.
  • Working with localities in the Richmond and Hampton Roads region to boost Virginia Regional Economic Growth.

  • Regularly attending meetings with neighborhood groups, to provide updates, and listen to concerns.
  • Scheduling regular town halls, and telephone town halls.
  • Always answering constituent messages, emails, and calls.

Keeping Taxes Low

Increasing Transparency

Exploring Alternative Funding Sources to accomplish our shared goals, while maintaining the  city's low taxes low by:

  • Looking into federal and private sector grants and loans, especially in regards to increasing funding for K-12 education.
  • Keeping Williamsburg property taxes one of the lowest in Virginia.
  • Expanding tax incentives to encourage Williamsburg residents to open small businesses.

Protecting Historic Neighborhoods

Protecting our historic neighborhoods, while still expanding housing accessibility by:

  • Expanding affordable housing options to lower rents in Williamsburg, and prevent residents from being forced out of their neighborhoods because of increased rents.
  • Making it easier to purchase a home in Williamsburg, by establishing new property tax credit for first-time home buyers.
  • Passing a new Rent Ready Program, that modifies the three person rule to address rental housing realities, and encourages positive student & neighbor relationships.
